An update ahead of Council meeting
Community Picnic & Council Meeting 29 April
Dear families and supporters,
Please know that our team has been working day and night to fight for the continued operation of BCEYLC. We’ve been seeking answers and transparency from ISC executives on multiple unanswered questions. We’ve been meeting with as many Councillors as possible - sharing critical information that we believe has been overlooked. We have also formally and respectfully requested ACS withdraw their application. We have been supporting a rescission motion by Councillors Landells and Horne, for the next Council meeting; and have tabled the community petition that many of you signed.
What’s next - Council meeting 29 April
We want to thank you all for your incredible support. Our recent petition has officially been added to the agenda for the Indigo Shire Council meeting next Tuesday 29 April. This is a vital step — but we need to be clear: Council is still refusing to accept a rescission motion submitted on Tuesday 22 April.
Here’s how you can help - Join us for the meeting
Our attendance set a record at the 25 March meeting. We are asking our supporters to join us once again. Please bring some dinner and join us at a community picnic outside the Council office before the meeting from 5pm next Tuesday 29 April. We strongly encourage you to stay for the meeting - doors will open at 6pm and the meeting will commence at 6.30pm. Our numbers will show the Council that this decision and process is not supported by the community that they represent.
WHERE:
Council building, Kurrajong Way Beechworth (Mayday Hills)
WHEN
5pm-6.30pm - Gather for our community picnic
6.30pm - Council meeting starts
WHAT TO BRING:
As many people as possible. Bring the kids (for picnic), grandparents and your neighbours.
Bring a sign of protest (cannot bring into chambers).
Bring a picnic or dinner.
Bring a picnic rug or chairs.
LEAVE AT HOME:
Any signs that are derogatory or inflammatory
Any questions, please reach out to Paige Schweizer - 0400736766
Submitting questions ahead of the meeting:
We are working on strategic questions to council that will ideally highlight the flaws in the process, and the failure to address community concerns. This is hopefully a better approach than inundating them with 250+ questions that council can take on notice.
Please reach out if you are hoping to submit a question and we can advise on the best approach (to avoid double ups, and overwhelm). Email Lou Friend louilynch@gmail.com
Our voices will be heard
The voices of families, educators, and community members must not be ignored. We are standing up not just for BCEYLC, but for fair process, local decision-making, and the wellbeing of our children.
We will not give up, and will explore every avenue for BCEYLC to continue to operate. We will keep you up to date in the coming days and weeks - please know we will always fight for BCEYLC, our families and our staff.
Thank you for continuing this fight with us.
